The 47th May 1st tournament of the Cantal Football District took place in the rain which did not dampen the enthusiasm of the young people, even if the program was adapted.
The white canvases grew like mushrooms in La Ponétie, between the football fields, this Wednesday, May 1st. The Cantal clubs, which had thought of taking their arbors, did well: it was only there that it was possible to escape the long, nagging rain which fell on 1,400 faces gathered for the occasion, in U7, U9 and U11 tournaments. Most of the clubs responded to this departmental football school tournament. There were very few last minute packages, and only among the smallest. Not bothered by the drops, the kids went through the matches without complaining.
More than 1,200 young football players expected in Aurillac for the May 1st tournament
Thanks to a new application offered at the tournament which allowed clubs to send results from the edge of the pitch and immediately know where and when the next match would be played, the day was greatly streamlined.“It’s a real advantage at the logistical level,” appreciated Solène Rolland, administrative manager at the District. “It’s great,” said Clément Haouili, U11 educator at Murat. Between matches, we come back to shelter the children and they can dry off. »
Unfortunately, it was the state of the pitches that forced the District to adapt the tournaments, stopping the U9s prematurely and removing the ranking matches for the U11s. The additional activities, notably a mixture of pétanque and football proposed by the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee, came down around midday.Without taking away the children’s enthusiasm. We had to see the U11s battle for qualification in the final phase, around 1 p.m., to win the right to continue playing a few more matches in the showers, thus respecting the 47th edition of this festive event which helps build the future players of the Cantal football.
