Météo France has placed 14 departments on orange storm alert. Rain, gusts of wind and hail are particularly expected in Yonne, which fears further bad weather.
In Yonne, Wednesday May 1, the mayor of Chablis, Marie-José Vaillant, came to warn her residents in person. The department has been placed on orange alert where violent storms are expected and residents fear further flooding. “We have planned developments, but the water goes where it wants, as it wants”, fears the city councilor. A month earlier, Chablis had already been confronted with heavy flooding, notably in a campsite which was flooded and the streets of the town center were partly submerged.
A whole part of Burgundy was faced with significant bad weather. Entire villages found themselves under water and a record lightning strike was recorded. According to Météo France, the storms are expected to be virulent with heavy precipitation, hail and gusts of wind. Orange vigilance begins in Yonne at 5:00 p.m. and should end at the end of the evening.
