Like workers around the world, workers in Senegal are celebrating May 1, the day dedicated to them. Grouped around unions affiliated with central organisations, workers in Senegal opt for mobilizations every year in order to take stock of the rights and working conditions of professionals. In Dakar, some will take advantage of the celebration to host press conferences and meetings between workers. The most representative trade union centers will respond in the afternoon to the traditional meeting at the presidential palace with the Head of State to give him their list of grievances. In the last general representative elections held last December, the National Confederation of Workers of Senegal (CNTS), the National Union of Autonomous Trade Unions of Senegal (UNSAS), the National Confederation of Workers of Senegal/Force du Change (CNTS /FC), the Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions (CSA) and the General Federation of Workers of Senegal (FGTS/B) were the outgoing quinté.

The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye will hold his first meeting today with all the trade union centers of Senegal to measure the achievements of the country’s workers but also to raise their grievances for an improvement in conditions.

May 1 was declared a public holiday in Senegal in 1947.
