Around 10,000 people took part in the May 1 procession on Wednesday in Zurich, under the slogan “Capitalism makes you sick”. Alongside the procession, several windows, including subsidiaries of UBS and Franz Carl Weber, were sprayed red.

A Keystone-ATS correspondent on site estimated the attendance at the procession at 10,000 people. The latter headed towards Sechseläuten Square, where it was to end with a speech by Daniel Lampart, chief economist of the Swiss Trade Union Union (USS). The police were present in force.

The official procession organized by the union umbrella aimed in particular to mobilize in favor of a “yes” to the initiative to reduce health premiums, put to a vote on June 9. However, many groups joined the demonstration, including this year a large “Palestine bloc”.

In the afternoon, many radical left-wing organizations called for an unauthorized demonstration, a gathering that usually ends in incidents and property damage.
