Political reactions are increasing after the ousting of Raphaël Glucksmann, head of the PS-Place publique list in the European elections, during the May 1 parade organized in Saint-Étienne (Loire). “In a democracy, everyone has the right to demonstrate”recalls Manon Aubry, head of the rebellious list, who adds: “I deplore that Raphaël Glucksmann was prevented from doing so and condemn these methods which are not ours.”

For the ecologist Sandrine Rousseau, “we must be able to march, to debate while respecting our differences and our divergences. The left and ecology must be up to the political stakes of the moment. What we are showing here is the opposite.”

Jean-Luc Mélenchon affirms, “totally disapprove of this expulsion”however accusing the PS-PP candidate of accusing rebellious activists. “This expulsion provides a media diversion against May 1 and a victim role for Glucksmann who takes the opportunity to accuse us. The enemy is the extreme right“.

Within the government, the first voices are also being raised to denounce this eviction. “I will always stand against any form of violence in politics”assures Prime Minister Gabriel Attal. “Politics must always be done with respect for the integrity of people and therefore I will always denounce this type of violent behavior”he concluded.

On the right, the head of the Republican list for Europeans, François-Xavier Bellamy, charges “the extreme left” which does not have “learned nothing from its history”and who only lacks “the power to rediscover totalitarian madness”. “Every day shows how much NUPES was a mistake for those who lined up behind it. No disagreement justifies violence: support for Raphaël Glucksmann”adds the candidate.
