Rabat City Council: a decisive October session for the majority

Internal differences within the District Councils hang over the ordinary October session of the Rabat City Council, which occurs after the by-elections which took place in the Ocean constituency, relays Al Akhbar this Monday, September 30.

These elections had a very low turnout and were punctuated by infighting within the ranks of several elected officials, to the point where advisors from the majority supported an opponent of their candidate.

Relations are just as tense between the district president Hassan and the members of his majority, who accuse him of having committed several violations. They criticize him in particular “to have acquired several smartphones without presenting the purchase documents, nor giving the list of those who benefited from them», Explains the daily.

The same goes for the management of fuel distribution, which the protesters describe as “ambiguous and confused», while demanding the president to reveal the list of beneficiaries. They also demand that he give explanations on the “nature of the disbursement of funds allocated to the rental of equipment for the festivities and rolling stock, in particular cars which have recently been rented and whose maintenance costs have experienced an unjustified increase».

On the other hand, informed sources indicate that the municipal budget is suffering from the decline in revenues due to the delay in the execution of numerous projects supposed to inject additional financial resources, projects at the head of which are the “local markets».

Al Akhbar indicates that the City Council had signed a partnership for the rehabilitation of these markets with the Ministry of Agriculture, the wilaya of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region and the Rabat region-development company.

The project, whose cost is estimated at 74 million dirhams, concerned markets located in the districts of El Youssoufia, Hassan, Yacoub El Mansour and Agdal-Riyadh.

The same sources indicate that the City Council had proposed modifying the terms of the agreement signed by the previous office, but this proposal remained a dead letter.
