Lhen the presentation to the public of the next season of the Marseille Opera, its director, Maurice Xiberras, was very proud to display six operas (seven with the Requiem by Verdi), in this Art Deco jewel in the heart of the Old Port; and as many operettas at the Odéon which, on the “Cane-cane-cane-cane-bière”, is the natural complement. He did not hesitate to point out that other houses that are much better off (follow his gaze) struggle to complete two or three productions per year. Not to mention the extremely wealthy Aix Festival on the verge of bankruptcy. And without forgetting that at the Paris Opera the place costs twice as much.

An old-fashioned director, Xiberras is a child of the ball. A former singer, he knows the house from floor to ceiling, has a good artistic network and knows the cars…
