A true architectural treasure classified as a Historic Monument, the roof of the Arrivals Hall of the Saint-Jean station in Bordeaux is currently being restored by Compagnons du Devoir.
The imposing 22 meter high scaffolding will be dismantled. The work undertaken since last November is nearing completion. This meticulous work is undertaken by true specialists who have been seen at work on the roof of Notre-Dame de Paris. These companions of duty are used to working on these roofs, which are classified as historic monuments.
Works and a Gironde company
No need to look far! The 11,500 slates of the hall dome were installed by the company Union technique du logement de Bègles. These slates are laid in fish scale in the old-fashioned way, with a hammer and an anvil. Fourteen goldsmiths worked on the renovation of this roof. Carpenters, zinc workers, stonemasons and roofers had to intervene. This project was carried out in compliance with the conditions for carrying out the original work in conjunction with the architects of Bâtiments de France.
A project about to be completed
The meeting was timed for the rather special travelers who arrive from all over the world to follow the Olympic Games this summer.
