The Assembly recognized on Monday the genocide suffered by this Eastern Christian community. From 1915 to 1918, some 250,000 Assyro-Chaldeans were massacred by the Ottomans.

On Monday, the National Assembly put an end to more than a century of forgetting and ignorance by adopting the proposed resolution “concerning the recognition and condemnation of the persecution of the Assyro-Chaldeans of 1915 as genocide”. A little over a year after the Senate opened the way by voting on a similar text in February 2023.

In the stands, many people present could savor a success to which they largely contributed. At the forefront of which are the representatives of the historical associations of this community present in for decades, the Association of Assyro-Chaldeans of France (AACF) and the Union of Assyro-Chaldeans of France (UACF).

But also the members of the Syriac Union of or even François Pupponi, former deputy of Val d’Oise and mayor of , where the community is very established. Without naturally forgetting the historian Joseph Yacoub, accompanied by his wife Claire, whose work has been praised by several parliamentarians…
