Several dozen people took over the Sorbonne University this Monday, April 29. Some plan to set up tents in the interior courtyard. Classes and exams have been postponed.

Several dozen students gathered at midday on Monday at the Sorbonne for a mobilization in favor of the Palestinian cause in front of the building and inside the university, where they set up tents, a similar action at Sciences Po on Friday, noted AFP.

“There is no longer any entry possible” in the buildings since around noon, indicated the communication from the University of 1-Panthéon Sorbonne to AFP, specifying that “the Sorbonne will be closed this afternoon by decision of the rectorate”.

According to the Paris rectorate, around thirty activists gathered inside the Sorbonne, where nine tents were set up in the courtyard and three in the hall, and a Palestinian flag placed on the ground. “The lecture theaters were evacuated around midday and exams were canceled,” it was added.

assassin, Sorbonne complicit” or “Don’t look at us, join us” sang students in front of the Sorbonne, where around 150 people were gathered, in the presence in particular of the LFI deputy Louis Boyard, noted AFP.

“We are here following the appeal of students from Harvard and Columbia,” Lorélia Fréjo, student at Paris-1 and activist for the student organization Le Poing Levé, told AFP. “After the actions at Sciences Po, we are here to ensure that it continues.”

Friday, a day of blockage and mobilization, punctuated by tensions, was held at Sciences Po Paris, in the presence of several LFI deputies.
