“Today no, tomorrow maybe.” This was the response of Groupe Mutuel boss Thomas Boyer in March when The asked him about the possibility that policyholders would no longer be reimbursed in certain hospitals. This question referred to the decision taken by CSS regarding the Geneva clinics Les Grangettes or La Colline, of the Hirslanden group. Barely a month later, “tomorrow” arrived for Groupe Mutuel: from May 1, it decided to no longer honor the invoices issued by La Tour Hospital for supplementary insurance (LCA), as revealed by Geneva Tribune.

Located in Meyrin, this private establishment, belonging to a group of investors led by the wealthy Latsis family, welcomes around 1,200 Groupe Mutuel policyholders each year. Their hospitalization will therefore not be covered in private and semi-private wards. “These policyholders are caught in this trap, helpless after having paid premiums for years,” protests Mauro Poggia, advisor to the States (MCG/GE) and also lawyer for Hirslanden in the similar conflict between him and CSS. For him, this is a “scandalous reduction in benefits which is not accompanied by any reduction in premiums”.
