The co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire, Gabriel Nadeau Dubois, does not think that the left-wing party is in crisis, despite the sudden departure of Émilise Lessard-Terrien, but he says he takes his share of responsibility in this “failure” .

Exhausted, the co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire, Émilise Lessard-Therrien, announced her resignation in the early hours of Monday in a letter published on Facebook.

The 33-year-old politician and farmer had been off work for several weeks.

At a press briefing, the parliamentary leader of QS, Gabriel Nadeau Dubois, said he was saddened and surprised by the departure of his new co-spokesperson.

“That it ends so abruptly is certainly a big deal and I reiterate that I take… my share of responsibility in this failure,” he said. “I didn’t believe that we were, let’s say, on the eve of a resignation.”

Mr. Nadeau Dubois indicated that he would have liked to continue the transition started with Émilise Lessard-Terrien.

However, Québec solidaire failed in its challenge to make the new alliance work with an extra-parliamentary co-spokesperson, pointed out Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.

“I was co-spokesperson for seven years with Manon Massé and I was building a new tandem with Émilise,” he said, emphasizing that at the time, he and Manon needed a good year to learn to work together.

He reiterated that the transition process with Émilise was still ongoing.

“We worked very hard, I worked very hard in the last few months to make it work.”

It is clear that the connection between Ms. Lessard-Terrien and him did not take off.

“It is certain that we will have to take stock,” he maintained.

The parliamentary leader does not, however, think that solidarity training is in crisis, despite the harsh criticism mentioned by Émilise.

“The different visions collided, seeming to me to be difficult to reconcile, marking in the process my deep motivations for being co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire,” wrote the former solidaire MP for Rouyn-Noranda–Témiscamingue.

“A victory for the left”

On social networks, Taschereau’s former elected official, Catherine Dorion, reacted to the resignation of her friend and ally.

According to the former solidarity MP, the departure of Émilise Lessard-Terrien is “a defeat for the party”, but “a victory for the left”

“Thank you and congratulations to you, an upright and sensitive woman who stubbornly, categorically refuses to lose her way. Your departure is a defeat for the party, but it is, in a way, a victory for the left, the one which also stubbornly and categorically refuses to lose the sense of our ideals of justice and true democracy,” he said. she said, mentioning that QS had just lost “a great ambassador for the regions of Quebec.”
