L’Herbe en Friche in Lavérune, two concert evenings at the What a trip Festival, contemporary flamenco, the 30th anniversary of Jean Vilar, Feldup on stage and not on the Internet, and electro on the Colombière square, here are six events to experience from Friday September 27 to Sunday September 29.
Double Twin
Do you really have to love flamenco, its dance, its music and its singing to go see the Mellizo Doble show (“Double False Twins”, in Spanish) this Saturday at the Comédie Opera? Not sure. This is due to its performers, Israel Galván and Niño de Elche, known for taking steps aside from tradition and moving away from folklore. The first has always enchanted the Montpellier Danse festival, reinventing the language of flamenco by stripping down its gestures. The second positions itself in the avant-garde and subversion. Vocal experimentation is to be expected. With the virtuosity of one and the bubbling enthusiasm of the other, it is a new image of flamenco that will imprint itself on people’s minds.
Feldup
He is one of the stars of Youtube with more than 1.5 million subscribers to his account, Feldup alias Félix Dupuis is a unique videographer, producing well-crafted content highlighting the strangeness and mysteries of Internet. But he is also a singer and musician with his homonymous group. Music allows him to express past and present torments, like a kind of therapy that he shares with his audience. With a drawling voice, like a Tom Yorke who has just changed, the 22-year-old creates noisy rock influenced by “the alternative scene of the 90s, the New York rock revival of the 2000s”. Stirring.

The 4th edition of L’Herbe en friche could be the last. This is what the collective announced, which will leave the place it occupies in Laverune from January 2025. You must therefore take advantage of this weekend which combines theater, clown, dance and music through numerous proposals of local artists. It starts Saturday at 6:30 p.m. with the clown Nicolas Ferré who in Fridge (opus 2) seeks to transform his refrigerator into a rocket. At 8 p.m., the musical event takes place with the well-known cumbia sounds of Onda Ya. Sunday morning is geared towards young audiences with two inventive solos for the little ones (6 months). À 14 h, la compagnie Zezargo présente Radishes don’t count as buttermusical theater that pays homage to Mother Earth. The dance meeting is at 3:30 p.m. with Nothing ! from the company Monsieur K. A duo that explores “the freedom of childhood”. The day ends with music with Crazy Like Rabbits performing songs taken from interviews with children. The moment remains family and festive.
Entertainment is also scheduled all day on Sunday.
Les concerts du What a trip
The festival dedicated to adventure films always offers concerts to have fun on the Place Royale du Peyrou. The only difference with other years is that they are paid but at a low price. Friday at 8:15 p.m., The Emperor’s Groove, which mixes Hip Hop, Jazz and Funk, warms up the audience before the arrival of Makoto San. In the way of Squid Gamethe Marseille quartet plays masked. His formula? Mix unbridled techno with traditional percussion from Japan or made with bamboo. It’s hard not to dance.
On Saturday, it’s a different atmosphere with the salsa of Montpellier’s Somos Gente who offer their Cuban sounds. It is then Emma Lamadji and the Gospelize It Project choir who will conclude this explosive evening.
Jean Vilar’s 30th birthday
The Jean Vilar theater is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary by leaving its walls and offering, for a day, a large number of essentially musical events in the Sophie Desmarets park which adjoins it. Local artists mingle with others. You will have to count on the Catalan rumba of José y Luis, the oriental sounds of Fethi Tabet, the uninhibited pop of Betty Argo, the precious texts of Benjamin Conte, or even the reggae fever of the Marseillais of Gang Jah Mind. Also worth seeing are three shows, including one for the little ones.
A prescription for electro
Autumn is just around the corner, but electro can still be enjoyed outdoors this Saturday. The place is atypical: La Colombière, the psychiatric branch of the Montpellier University Hospital. This choice is due to DJ Attalin who is also a doctor when he is not mixing. It is on the square that the public is expected for a collective examination. The treatment is innovative: varied electro sounds. In terms of dosage, this requires a good dose of Irène Drésel. The dj is a bit of a standout in the world of electro, with elegant melodies. A jack of all trades, she is also the first woman composer to receive a César. The Frenchwoman will be accompanied by Acid Arab, a well-known oriental electro group.
