Paris: discover the timetable for the passage of the ring road at 50km/h

The details of a measure which has attracted a lot of attention, and whose implementation is fast approaching, are being revealed. A first section of the ring road will become limited to 50 km/h from this Tuesday, October 1, according to information from BFMTV that the Paris town hall confirms to Le Parisien. The axis concerned is located on the inner ring road and extends from the Porte des Lilas and the Porte d’Orléans.

The rest of the road remains limited to 70 km/h on this date. Then, according to our information, the speed will gradually be standardized at 50 km/h across the entire ring road, section by section.

Around 160 traffic signs must be installed. To do this, the City plans “six nights of closure”, section by section. The closure of each zone will take place between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., to reopen to traffic between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning. The deployment of the panels must take place as follows, according to a schedule communicated by the municipality:

  • Tuesday October 1: passage at 50 from the inner ring road from Porte des Lilas to Porte d’Orléans
  • Wednesday October 2: passage at 50 from the inner ring road from Porte d’Orléans to Porte Dauphine
  • Thursday October 3: passage at 50 from the outer ring road from Porte de to Porte Maillot
  • Friday October 4: passage at 50 from the inner ring road from Porte Dauphine to Porte des Lilas
  • Wednesday October 9: passage at 50 from the outer ring road from Porte Maillot to Porte de Châtillon
  • Thursday October 10: passage at 50 from the outer ring road from Porte de Châtillon to Porte de Bagnolet

At the beginning of September, the mayor (PS) of Paris Anne Hidalgo announced this reduction in the speed on the ring road, confirming a desire that she has had since the end of her first mandate in 2019. The project was announced at the end of November 2023, presented as one of the legacies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games desired by the City of Paris.

On Sunday, the new Minister of Transport François Durovray had curbed the project of the mayor of the capital for several reasons, recalling his skepticism towards this measure. He had clarified that the councilor was not the sole decision-maker and that he was going to speak with her this Friday.
