On May 27, Mr. Diop, aged 52 and residing in Thiès, will be tried by the Criminal Chamber of the Thiès High Court for serious charges. He is charged with attempted rape, pedophilia and embezzlement of a minor, crimes provided for and punished by articles 320, 320 bis and 348 of the Penal Code. According to Le Quotidien, the case began on February 13, 2021 when Ms. Diouf filed a complaint at the Parcelles Assainies police station in Thiès.

She accused Mr. Diop of having kidnapped and physically assaulted her daughter, D. Faye, aged six. According to the complainant, her daughter came home from school in tears, her clothes torn and stained with blood. She accompanied her to the scene where the events allegedly occurred and apprehended a man with the help of neighbors. Witnesses also reported similar attacks, and a medical examination confirmed the victim’s injuries. D. Faye testified in the presence of her mother, confirming the attack on Mr. Diop.

According to her account, he stopped her while she was looking for cashew nuts and forced her to follow him into a building under construction by grabbing her by the neck. On the spot, Mr. Diop allegedly ripped off his clothes, punched him in the face, breaking one of his teeth and causing injuries to his mouth. The girl managed to escape and return home, where her grandmother immediately took her to the hospital.

Another person, B. Thiam, said his daughter, NF Tounkara, aged 4, had also been a victim of rape at the hands of Mr. Diop. She indicated that the events date back to June 16, 2019 and took place in a building close to their home. Her daughter was found and brought home by a neighbor, and B. Thiam immediately noticed the signs of rape. She said her daughter told her that a man found her outside the store and took her to the building where she was abused.

Mr. Diop denied the accusations against him, although he admitted that D. Faye had named him as her attacker. He denied being the author of the attempted rape of NF Tounkara. He mentioned having temporary psychological problems, but claimed not to be mentally deficient. The public prosecutor reclassified the facts as violence and assault instead of attempted rape and pedophilia against D. Faye. He requested a 6-month prison sentence against Mr. Diop. The case will be judged on May 27, 2024.
