Around thirty residents of Avenue d’école, located north of Jarnac, had to be evacuated from their homes on the evening of Sunday April 28 due to a suspected gas leak. Strong odors led the firefighters and GrDF to intervene, around 9:30 p.m., on this long stretch of road between the Feuillet pharmacy and the U express store. “They carried out initial analyzes and it turned out that it was not explosive and that there was no leak on the network,” indicates Christophe Roy, the first deputy mayor who visited on site with the mayor. Residents were able to return to their homes around midnight.

This Monday, April 29, do it again. The smell of gas, still present, was reported shortly before 9 a.m. by teachers at the Claude-Debussy nursery school, located not far away, rue de Royan. As a precaution, the students were temporarily evacuated to the courtyard while the firefighters and GrDF intervened again and the classes were aired.

Samples have been taken and will be analyzed. These odors could be due to rising sewers, following the heavy rains this weekend.
