A fourth park to get seniors moving

“Let’s stay dynamic! Moving between seniors” is the name of the program of the Department of Social Cohesion and Solidarity launched in 2021. Today, the project extends to a fourth park, that of Beaulieu. It aims to combat the isolation of seniors and strengthen their mobility.

A light warm-up, a few stretches, and they are ready to start a short walk. The seniors met this Monday morning at Parc Beaulieu. The goal of these meetings is to build relationships and maintain health for as long as possible, as Christina Kitsos explains: “There are several objectives in this project. The first, obviously, is to stay mobilized, to stay active and active, to prevent falls, to make sure you live better and for as long as possible. The other objective is simply to be able to meet, to be able to exchange ideas, to create links within a neighborhood.”

Everything is supervised by two sports coaches and a nurse from the Social Service for an hour, in joy and good humor: “It’s true that it’s nice because people have a smile, they are motivated. It makes you want, at any age, to get back into physical activity.”

An essential need for seniors

Also present at Parc Bertrand, Parc des Franchises and Parc Baud-Bovy, the sessions had already met with some success. Starting this Monday, the program is extended to Parc Beaulieu. Something to delight seniors while meeting their needs: “Contact, being outside feels good. You have to go out, you shouldn’t just stay at home. It’s perfect.” tells us Paulette Meier, participant of the program. Mariella Sciuto, another participant, explains: “First to go out, to walk, and to do exercises. It’s a wonderful park in the open air, it’s fantastic.”

This program received an award from the Federal of Health and the RADIX foundation. The sessions are free and open to everyone. They will now also take place every Monday at 10 a.m. at Parc Beaulieu.
