Dakar, April 29 (APS) – The Minister of and Solidarity, Maïmouna Dièye, announced, Monday, in Dakar, the upcoming start of the first phase of the Valley Community Development and Resilience Project ( north).

Lasting five years (2024-2028), this initiative required financing of nearly 120 billion CFA francs from the World .

The first phase of this project will start next Thursday and will concern 44 municipalities in Senegal and four wilayas (a territorial division) in Mauritania, according to Ms. Dièye.

She spoke to journalists about this initiative at the end of a meeting of representatives of the World Bank, the Emergency Program for the Modernization of Senegal’s Border Axes and Territories and several ministries concerned.

It is an “integrating and [fournisseur] solutions to border areas,” she said.

“This meeting served to harmonize positions, before launching the project,” continued Maïmouna Dièye.

She cited agriculture, hydraulics, processing, transport, youth and sports as targets of the project, the second phase of which will be extended to Malian municipalities located near Mauritania and Senegal.

“The Senegal River Valley Community Development and Resilience Project will be implemented by the governments of Mauritania and Senegal, to address the multiple challenges linked to socio-economic development and climatic phenomena faced by the established communities. on both sides of the Senegal River valley,” we read in a document provided to the press.

The same Source speaks of a “sub-regional and integrative cross-border project, intended for populations living on either side of the border between Mauritania and Senegal”.

The document states that “non-inclusive and non-transparent governance and land allocation regimes, as well as insufficient development planning and decision-making processes at the local level, exacerbate underlying grievances and tensions between groups, among young people disenfranchised and frustrated by lack of opportunities in particular”.
