Vaud unveiled this Monday the results of a study carried out on the solar potential of its cantonal buildings.
If it wishes to achieve electric autonomy by 2035 – as planned in the climate plan – it will need to install nearly 6,000m2 of photovoltaic panels per year. Through this strategy, the canton could achieve a total surface area of 100,000m2, or 16 football fields.
A complex mission, but not impossible according to Camille Orthlieb, responsible for sustainable construction at the General Directorate of Buildings and Heritage in Vaud.
Ultimately, these infrastructures will make it possible to produce almost the equivalent of the energy consumption of 5,000 Swiss households. Note also that the University of Lausanne and the CHUV are also establishing an assessment of their photovoltaic potential.
