Essonne: the IDF Water Union unveiled its renovated site in Palaiseau

“It’s not every day that we inaugurate a new water tower !“, launched, in a joking tone, the Île-de- water union (Sedif) in a digital publication. This Saturday, September 20, he unveiled the complete overhaul of his site at (Essonne). It had been more than 30 years since the Union had built infrastructure in the region. The last constructions date back to 1991 with “Les Flûtes”, the name given to the reservoirs (Val-de-).

The work, started in 2020, required an investment of 20 million euros to build a new pumping station and a new reservoir. They will allowto secure the distribution of drinking water and to respond to the increase in demand for water linked to the development of the Plateau de Saclay. “By 2030, water needs will triple in this sector, which will constitute a world-renowned center of scientific excellence”announced the Sedif in a press release.

The development of the Plateau de Saclay, a major challenge for Greater

The old pumping station, built in 1975, as well as one of the tanks, with a capacity of 450 cubic meters (m³) and dating from 1940, were no longer suitable and were demolished. They were replaced by a work of capacity of 3,100 m3 equipped with two independent tanks. “This reduces operating constraints and allows drinking water reserves to be doubled.”added the Union. Another reservoir, dating from 1966, was rehabilitated: its facades were removed asbestos and resurfaced, and the hydraulic and electrical equipment was replaced.

In order to continue to improve the water quality for users, Sedif has integrated a chlorination station in the pumping station. “It allows the chlorine residual to be adjusted evenly up to the end of the network.”he explained. “The redesign of the Palaiseau site will make it possible to support the considerable urban planning and demographic developments in our territory.”said Gregory of Lasteyriemayor of Palaiseau and vice-president of the Union. The development of the Plateau de Saclay constitutes one of the major challenges of Greater Paris.
