UA full-time worker earned on average 4,076 euros gross per month in 2022, or 190 euros more than the previous year, according to figures published Wednesday by Statbel, the Belgian statistics office.

Salary increases with age, especially among employees, notes Statbel. Workers under 40 earn less overall than the national average, while above that, they often receive more.

Which jobs pay the most?

Company directors top the list of the best paid professions, with an amount of 11,772 euros exceeding the national average by 189%.

At the opposite end, we find childcare workers, with a monthly salary of 2,567 euros, or 37% less than the national average. Likewise, waiters and bartenders, hairdressers and beauticians as well as housekeepers receive on average a salary of less than 2,700 euros per month.

Statbel further points out that the average monthly salary is higher in the center of the country, where it amounts to 4,748 euros, thus exceeding the national average by 16%. The average salary is also above 4,250 euros in companies located in the districts bordering the capital, namely Hal-Vilvoorde, Louvain and Nivelles.

Finally, in all age groups, men employed full time earn more than their female colleagues. The wage gap between men and women is 10.2% for workers under 20 and 19% for those 60 and over.
