After the construction of the high school, a police station and a future gymnasium… The commune of Sommières continues its development towards the west. She is looking for a developer to build no less than 300 housing units.

Sommières conquering the West? It’s a bit the idea of the mayor, Pierre Martinez. This Monday, in the municipal council, elected officials announced the launch of a call for tenders aimed at finding a developer for the “Massanas-La Crouzade” ZAC (Concerted Development Zone). The real estate project is ambitious: just over 300 housing units over a total area of 10 hectares. Translation: a new district will ultimately be created to the west of Sommières.

The future developer will have 10 years to complete this task. This sector is strategic since this new district will be structured around the gendarmerie, the Lucie-Aubrac high school opening in 2021 as well as the future gymnasium. Large-scale infrastructures certainly, but infrastructures which have strained the finances of the town hall. This year, it also increased its property tax substantially.

This urban planning program will therefore be a good way to bring tax revenue into the municipality’s coffers. In detail, the project provides for around a hundred individual housing units and 200 collective housing units, including 25% social housing. The developer will have to pay a development tax to the municipality and, future owners, the sacrosanct property tax.

Beyond real estate, landscaping, public facilities, hydraulic works as well as small businesses are planned. An operation which should, ultimatelybalance out at €13.5 million.
