Alès: demolition of an illegal construction by the Gard prefecture

This Thursday, September 26, the prefecture carried out the demolition of an illegal construction in the town of Saint-Bénézet near Alès.

As part of the fight against illegal constructions, the Committee to Combat Illegal Constructions (COLCI), a coordinating body which brings together institutional actors (prefecture, public prosecutor’s office, law enforcement, departmental direction of Territories and the Sea , general directorate of public finances, etc.) has recorded the implementation of the judicial decision to demolish illegal constructions (a mobile home, wooden enclosures and shelters) located in the commune of Saint-Bénézet.

The cost of the demolition is estimated between €25,000 and €30,000, covered by the State, which then turns against the occupant. Each year, around 150 reports are drawn up under town planning for illegal constructions. This year, between 7 and 10 demolitions are scheduled, but only one should be carried out due to the very long delays.

In the Gard, the Prefecture is not aware of the exact number of illegal constructions, although there are several hundred, if not thousands. The fight against these offenses therefore seems particularly difficult, given the pace of demolitions.

The demolition took place this Thursday, September 26 at 9:30 a.m., in the presence of Sébastien Ferra, director of the DDTM du Gard.
