In Avranches, the magnolia which overlooks Place Littré, planted in a private garden on Rue Maurice Chevrel, has just been classified as a “remarkable tree of France”. Every year, this majestic Magnolia DenudaIt flowers at the beginning of spring to the delight of pedestrians, many of whom photograph it.
This tree, which must date from the construction of the house, i.e. the year 1820, did not escape Jacques Savoine, vice-president of the Conservatory of Specialized Plant Collections (CCVS) and former director of green spaces for the City of Nantes (Loire-Atlantique).
Our Society invited him last year for a conference. For this expert, who literally fell in awe of this tree, its planting dates from the middle of the 19th century, or around 200 years ago.
François Saint-James, historian and municipal councilor, delegate for green spaces, specifies “The request for classification of this magnolia as a remarkable tree, and among the oldest planted in France, has been accepted”.
