Saint-Nazaire writes history. The SNVBA won the first French championship title in its history on Sunday, two years after its rise to the Marmara SpikeLigue. Title holders, Tours failed to catch up after their defeat in the first leg (3-1).
The return, which lasted nearly 3 hours 15 minutes, was a stifling scenario. Winner of the first set (25-21), Saint-Nazaire gave up the next two (18-25, 27-29) before reacting by winning the fourth (25-21). Enough to guarantee, at a minimum, the fact of playing a “golden set”. Which became inevitable just half an hour later when Tours won the tie-break (15-17), while Saint-Nazaire had obtained a first title point.
But the SNVBA fought back to dominate the “golden set” (15-12) and win a first title, thanks in particular to its Americans Jordan Ewert (19 points) and Kyle Ensing (13), who compensated for the huge match from the Brazilian TVB Aboubacar Dramé (28 points).
