The President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Faye has ordered a halt to all construction on the Dakar Corniche. The object of unprecedented land predation, buildings, hotels, luxury villas, etc. are growing like mushrooms on the maritime public domain of the Senegalese capital, which is suffocating due to rampant concrete construction.

“Sonko had promised that once in power that he would raze all the buildings on the western edge of Dakar. We can’t shave everything, that’s clear. But at least they (President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his government) have stopped all construction on the coast, on the corniche since the day before yesterday and I am personally delighted,” confided the architect and defender of the coast. Dakarois, Pierre Goudiaby Atepa on the show Point de vue this Sunday on RTS.

“Everything has stopped,” he emphasizes before specifying: “except the development work started by the State for the public. That’s different and that’s one of the things I’m happy about.”
