A haven of creativity

From the beginning of the 20th century, Montparnasse became the haunt of artists, writers and intellectuals in search of inspiration and freedom. Rue Campagne Première, located near the famous Montparnasse district, did not escape this artistic excitement. Many renowned artists have taken up residence in this picturesque street, attracted by its discreet charm and its atmosphere conducive to creation. The street is home to a few magnificent buildings which do not leave architecture lovers indifferent. This is particularly the case of the building at number 31, with its facade covered in ceramic and stylish bay windows. Art Deco or from that of number 9, built from parts recovered from the pavilions of the Universal Exhibition of 1889.

Workshops steeped in history

The artists’ studios on rue Campagne Première are imbued with a special atmosphere, where the artistic past of the district still resonates today. Some of these workshops were occupied by emblematic figures of modern art, such as Pablo Picasso, Man Ray, or even Marc Chagall. These places steeped in history have often remained in their original state, thus preserving the bohemian soul that characterizes them.
