A stormy front particularly hit the southwest on Saturday April 27, offering spectacular panoramas that delighted storm chasers.

More than 14,000 lightning strikes and 3,911 lightning strikes detected throughout , according to the Keraunos storm monitoring site. This Saturday, April 27, half of the country was hit by a storm front. The phenomenon affected the territory from the southwest to Touraine. Eight departments were placed on orange vigilance by Météo France. Indeed, the country had its share of hail, and gusts for several hours.

Although there were no injuries, 3,500 homes were still without electricity in the South-West this Sunday morning: 2,000 in Dordogne, 1,300 in Corrèze and around a hundred in Haute-. The day before, 10,000 people were deprived of power.

Like a coat of hail

Significant episodes of hail covered the landscape, such as in (Landes), where the streets were covered with hailstones in a few minutes.

A seventh Cevennes episode expected in and Ardèche this Sunday

Accumulated precipitation could reach nearly 200 mm locally, particularly in the Cévennes reliefs and in the Montagne d’Ardèche. At issue: a new Cévennes episode in the South-East, “quite remarkable for the season” according to Météo Languedoc characterized by violent precipitation caused by the meeting of a hot mass coming from the Mediterranean and a cold mass coming from elsewhere.

According to Météo-France, cumulative rainfall could nevertheless remain significant on Monday and Tuesday over a large south-eastern quarter, from Languedoc-Roussillon to the east of the Massif Central, and in particular over the Cévennes. And Patrick Galois, forecaster at Météo-France, concludes: “The notable duration of this phenomenon, rather than its intensity, is the most important aspect, the one that can cause the most damage.”
