Film Festival 2024 – French-speaking Belgium well represented at the Film Festival with eight co-productions

Previously announced, “The Most Precious of Goods” by Michel Hazanavicius, co-produced by the Dardenne brothers’ company, was selected in Official Competition. “The Damned”, by Italian filmmaker Roberto Minervini, is part of the Un Certain Regard selection. The feature film was co-produced in Belgium by Michigan Films.

In the Première section, we find “Everybody Loves Touda” by Nabil Ayouch, co-produced by Velvet Films, while “Sauvages” by Swiss director Claude Barras will be screened during the Young Audience Screenings.

Four French-speaking Belgian co-productions were also included in the Critics’ Week selection. “Julie Zwijgt”, the first feature film by Leonardo Van Dijl, also co-produced by the Dardenne brothers, and “Animale” by Emma Benestan, partly produced by Frakas, will be presented in competition. “Les Reines du Drama by Alexis” Langlois, co-produced by Wrong Men, and “La mer au loin” by Saïd Hamich Benlarbi, co-produced by Tarantula, will be screened in special screenings.

Finally, three films co-produced by companies from Wallonia-Brussels but not supported by the FWB will also be broadcast on the Croisette. “Emila Perez” by Jaques Audiard, who also called on the Dardenne brothers’ company, and “L’Amour Ouf” by Gilles Lellouche, co-produced by Artemis, will be presented in Official Competition. “Les Fantômes” by Jonathan Millet, a Hélicotronc co-production, will be at Critics’ Week.

Furthermore, the Filmmakers’ Fortnight will pay tribute to Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman with a special screening of her documentary “Stories of : Food, and Philosophy” and the creation of the Audience Choice prize.
