Senegalese Customs have seized medicines and foreign currency worth more than 620 million CFA francs in recent operations.
Senegalese Customs continue to stand out for their increased vigilance in the fight against trafficking in prohibited products. In a press release received by APA on Thursday, September 19, they announced that they had made several seizures of medicines and foreign currency with a total value exceeding 620 million CFA francs. These operations took place in different regions of the country between September 4 and 18, 2024.
On September 17, the Mbour Customs Maritime Brigade, part of the South Coast Subdivision, intercepted a shipment of medicines worth 455 million CFA francs on the high seas. The seized products included antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, antipyretics and aphrodisiacs, packaged in several boxes. Four individuals were arrested during this operation carried out thanks to increased surveillance of the Senegalese coasts.
In the Kaffrine region (Centre), another notable seizure took place on September 18, 2024. The Customs Mobile Brigade apprehended a vehicle carrying 226 kg of counterfeit medicines worth 80 million CFA francs. This interception, carried out following the exploitation of intelligence, took place in the commune of Ndiognick, between Mbéné Mamour and Loumène.
Another operation, this time in the locality of Kidira (East), led to the seizure of veterinary products worth 21 million CFA francs. This seizure was carried out on September 4, after the discovery of the fraudulent merchandise in a makeshift hut near Sinthiou Diohé.
In addition to the medicines, Customs also seized foreign currency worth 64 million CFA francs in Koumpentoum, in the Tambacounda region. On September 15, during a road check, officers arrested two foreign nationals who were hiding euro and CFA franc banknotes under their clothing.
