At the Marteau de velours burlesque striptease school in Bourges, classes resume on September 24, with a trial session. New from the 28th, the school opens monthly courses, to explore the hidden pin-up in you.
She often says that burlesque stripping is vintage, not her values.
“It’s a women’s emancipation movement,” recalls Sarah Larcher, who created the Marteau de velours school in Bourges four years ago. “The challenge was to make the public understand that all this is feminist. It’s not because we get naked that it’s for men. Burlesque is about taking your place. And gaining self-confidence. At school, we value differences and my students are between 20 and 70 years old.”
Pin-up internships
The school’s classes resume on Tuesday, September 24 with a trial session for beginners, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration is required by email (below). The course for advanced students is already full.
The new thing this year is the creation of monthly workshops, led by performer Loretta Banana. “I come from the Parisian scene,” explains the new Berruyère. “I learned burlesque with Plumettes Paris, a class that works with feather fans. I’m more into vintage than the Marteau de velours school. During the workshop, we’ll explore various themes around pin-ups, with a dance base.”
The first workshop, Saturday September 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., is dedicated to makeup, “which for me is meditation,” points out Loretta Banana.
Internships open to all without obligation:
“The word stripping can be scary. However, we are in the sensuality of a movement and stripping can teach you to take off a glove! The most important thing is that everyone feels safe.”

Drag class
As for the beginner classes, Sarah Larcher divides them into trimesters. “At the beginning, we are in classic burlesque, its golden age in the 1940s and 1950s. In the second trimester, we approach the new burlesque, we deconstruct female stereotypes to re-appropriate them. Then, we create a collective choreography. In June, introduction to drag: drag king, drag queen. We deconstruct gender stereotypes to better play with them.” And free ourselves from them.
