The Moroccan futsal team is one of the best in the world at the moment, said Jorge Braz, the coach of Portugal, Morocco’s opponent in the last match of Group E at the 2024 World Cup, on Thursday in Tashkent.

“I talk from time to time with Hicham (Dguig, the coach of the Moroccan selection, Editor’s note), it’s impressive what he does with Morocco,” said Braz in a statement to the press, after his team’s victory against Tajikistan (3-2), synonymous with qualification for the round of 16, just like the Moroccan team.

“I have great admiration for the Moroccan team (…) its personality, its motivation, the risks it takes during matches and the way it plays. I really like this team for the great work it has done, especially during the last African Cup,” won by the Moroccan selection, said the Portuguese coach.

“I really appreciate the work done in terms of futsal in Morocco,” he stressed, considering that the Moroccan selection is considered one of the teams that could win the World Cup.

Regarding the last match of Group E against the Atlas Lions, Jorge Braz believes that the game will not be easy, even if both teams have secured a place in the next round.

“The match against Morocco will not be easy. At the last edition of the World Cup, we left each other back to back (3-3 in 2021 in Lithuania, Editor’s note). We want to secure the top of the group, Morocco too. It will be a great futsal match,” he said.

The Atlas Lions won their second match of this World Cup, at the expense of Panama (6-3), Thursday in Tashkent, ensuring at least the 2nd position of group E and a place in the round of 16, after Portugal’s victory against Tajikistan (3-2) in the other match of the group. Morocco also made its best start to the World Cup with two victories in as many matches.
