SENEGAL-ECONOMY / The State invited to support entrepreneurship to “create jobs and boost” the economy – Senegalese Press Agency

Dakar, September 19 (APS) – The deputy head of entrepreneurship and investment at USAID, El Hadj Malick Soumaré, invited, on Thursday, the State of Senegal to definitively take ownership of the entrepreneurial issue in order to find solutions to the employment issue.

I think that the State of Senegal must be able to definitively take ownership of the entrepreneurial issue, to be able to resolve the issue of illegal immigration, boost entrepreneurship in Senegal, but also promote economic development,” he indicated.

El Hadj Malick Soumaré spoke during a press conference on the launch of the global entrepreneurship week scheduled for November 18 to 24, 2024.

“It is important that, through this initiative, the State shows that it remains strong and determined to support entrepreneurship in Senegal,” he said.

To do this, he said, “it is important to raise awareness” so that “entrepreneurs are aware and know about all the systems that can support them in their activities or in their entrepreneurial journey.”

He also suggested in this approach, “non-financial” support to “structure and formalize” the activities.

For El Hadj Malick Soumaré, these entrepreneurs must also benefit from financial support allowing them to acquire equipment or recruit “good human resources”. This will allow, he said, “to be able to claim the development of their economic activities”.

Speaking at this press conference, the founder of Jokkolabs, a Senegalese non-profit initiative aimed at uniting, Karim Sy, declared that ”this meeting is a great opportunity to inspire and encourage participants, especially young people, to explore their potential as self-entrepreneurs and innovators, through local, national and international activities to take their destiny in hand”.
