Swiss soldier dies in shooting accident in Bremgarten

This Tuesday, a soldier died following an assault rifle shot in Bremgarten in the canton of Aargau. The Swiss Army has opened an investigation.

A soldier died Tuesday morning during a shooting accident at the Bremgarten shooting range (AG). For reasons still unknown, according to the Swiss Army, an assault rifle fired into a military vehicle. The bullet hit a soldier in the head.

After receiving first medical aid, the injured man was transported to hospital by a rescue helicopter, where he died in the morningindicated the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports (DDPS).

According to the latter, The shooting incident in the military vehicle occurred shortly after 9 a.m. At that time, members of Supply Recruit School 45 were in an instructional sequence.

What do we know about the victim?

The victim was a former student of the recruit school, army spokesman Mathias Volken told the Keystone-SDA news agency. He did not provide any further information about the victim.

The recruit school is currently in its 15th week of training instruction. Relatives would have been informed and would be taken care oflike the comrades of the deceased, by local care teams and the army.

The Swiss Army has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. For the moment, no additional information has been communicated.

The last time a shooting accident occurred in the military was last June in Gossau (SG), following an involuntary shooting. Three people from a non-commissioned officer school were then injured and had to be hospitalized.
