It was Wednesday, October 18, 2023. The Federal Council was meeting in the government district of the capital. The famous Bundesmeile, the area that forms the political center of the country (see map below), was suddenly evacuated. Two suspicious packages were spotted by the Bern cantonal police. The bushes in front of the Federal Palace West were searched. In the end, more fear than harm: “The packages were examined and found to be harmless,” the Bern police reported at the time.
