UA 72-year-old man from Mortsel went missing while hiking in Albania last week, police and prosecutors say in a missing person notice. The man, Mark Joris, was hiking on the Upper Scardus Trail, which leads from Kosovo through Albania to northern Macedonia.

On Monday, September 9, Mark Joris arrived at a hiking hut along the trail, the “Alp Stanet e Hinoskes,” in Peshkopi, Albania. He stayed there until the morning of Wednesday, September 11, to continue his hike to the villages of Bitouché and Modrič in northern Macedonia. Since that morning, however, all traces of him have disappeared.

Mark Joris is 1.82 meters tall and has a thin build. The man has blue eyes and short, gray hair. During his walk, he wore a blue jacket, a trekking backpack and a green tent.

The police and prosecutors are looking for witnesses who may have seen Joris again during his walk or who may have information about his whereabouts. Hikers who will still be using the trail in the coming days are advised to be extra vigilant. Anyone who notices anything that could be linked to the disappearance is asked to contact the police.

The police can be contacted at the e-mail address [email protected] and at the free number (from Belgium) 0800 30 300. The investigation report can be consulted at www.politie.be.
