Enough to alarm MP Jonathan de Patoul (Défi). “I find this worrying. Dogs and walkers risk coming face to face with it. To have already as a veterinarian had to stitch up a certain number of dogs who had been attacked by wild boars (in the countryside), it is really dangerous, especially if the animal feels in danger.”

This is not the first time that a wild pig has been seen in the capital. In January 2022, for example, we exposed in our columns the passage of several wild boars on avenue de Tervueren.

More and more wild boars observed in the streets of Brussels: should we be worried?

What to do ? “The question is open. Security questions arise and we must put the debate on the table”indicates amaranth, which recalls that hunting is prohibited in Brussels and has just questioned Minister Alain Maron (Ecolo) on this subject.

Questioned recently by Gaëtan Van Goidsenhoven (MR), the environmental minister confirmed that “the wild boar actually reappeared in Brussels in 2006 in the Forêt de Soignes. The species is installed more specifically at the Tervuren Arboretum, in Flanders, and occasionally makes furtive appearances in the Brussels region.

In 2019, one wild boar was observed by Brussels Environment, 8 in 2020, a group in 2022 and 6 in 2023. “This information should be taken with a grain of salt, as it is simply observations; they do not reflect the state of the population in the regional territory”, indicated the minister, conceding that “the pressure on the Brussels region inevitably increases”. No serious incident was noted.
