Compared to the same quarter of 2023, this number is down by just over 62,600 (–31.0%). This decrease results in a reduction in the vacancy rate (the number of vacant positions expressed as a percentage of the demand for work), which goes from 5.0% to 3.5% for this period.
The number of vacancies stands at approximately 38,000 in the health care and social assistance industry, 12,500 in retail trade, 13,900 in accommodation and food services and 13,200 in the manufacturing industry.
In the second quarter of 2024, the average hourly wage for all vacant positions is set at $26.40, and that of all salaried employment, at $33.79.
