The two-way cycle path on a dedicated site, between the Soleil Levant area in Givrand (Vendée) and the Jalonnière roundabout in Saint-Gilles--de-Vie (right side towards Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie), is open to traffic since July 13.

The elected officials have just inaugurated it.

Significant potential for daily travel

For the president of the Agglomeration, François Blanchet, “this project is part of the overall mobility strategy of the agglomeration, presented during the community council of February 29th.”

In other words, this development had been identified in the master plan, with the aim of connecting the economic activity zone (ZAE) of Soleil Levant and the Vendéopôle from Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie.

Because according to elected officials, approximately 1,000 jobs are already established in this area. Not to mention the new companies that will set up there in the future.

Which suggests a significant potential for daily travel by bike from the agglomeration of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie.

This new development will also make it possible to connect the link coming from Saint-Révérend, which joins the Vendéopôle, to the Bégaudière area, while avoiding going through Givrand.

How much did the project cost and how was it financed?

The project, with a total cost of 548,037.25 € HT, benefited from grants covering 80% of its funding.

The trigger for the operational phase was the decision of the departmental council, selecting our project on November 24, as part of its program of assistance for cycle facilities in favor of daily cycling.

François Blanchet, President of the Agglomeration.

It is therefore in this context that departmental aid equivalent to 40% of the amount of the work, or €219,214 excluding tax, was granted to the Agglomeration by the Vendée department.

At the same time, the Agglomeration had already requested European funds as part of a regional scheme. This allowed it to obtain a second grant, also equivalent to 40% of the cost of the work, or the same sum of €219,214 excluding VAT, under the “Developing active mobility” programme.

Thus, the remaining cost for the Pays de Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie Agglomeration amounts to only €109,610 excluding VAT.

The work was carried out between May 13 and July 13. All that remains is the turfing, planned for the fall.
