The oyster distributor 24/7 in Lestre (Manche) could soon disappear. Oyster farmers Simon and Marie Quenet propose this direct sales 7 days a week via of the lockers refrigerated for two years on their agricultural land at the crossroads of the old station.

They offer the same service in Saint-Floxel, Sottevast and they have plans for distributors elsewhere. But for the one in Lestre, the Quenet Lejeune Oyster Company faces administrative problems.

In the confusion, the managers decided to create a petition to “Save our distributor”.

Regularize the situation or remove the bungalow

Without permission from the prefecture to set up their business, the oyster farmers were summoned to the police station. “Friday, we received several proposals from the public prosecutor’s office. Either we regularizes the situation within four months, or we remove our bungalow.

The prefabricated building, in which the refrigerators are housed on their land, has become out service at the time of Storm Ciaran. It allows them to sell their oysters, which won gold medals at the 2023 Agricultural Show, and their strawberries grown on the same land as the distributor.

“In June 2024, the festivities are coming, the season is beginning it’s time to do something againbut unfortunately Our town planning declarations are still being refused.. We can’t wait any longer, we have the place, the materialwe start again and this time install a modular bungalow” explains Marion Quenet Lejeune.

We are looking for a regularization solution as quickly as possible to be able to continue selling our products.

” We are in incomprehension she continues. Initially, in 2021, we were granted a certificate urban planning For construction of a 400 m² building for production and marketing, we abandoned the project because of the increase in the cost of materials after Covid. So, for our bungalow movableAnd removable, we don’t see where the problem is. We are on our agricultural plotwe have a number at the MSA we sell our production…”

“It’s discouraging”

A situation “discouraging”for the young couple of oyster farmers: “We are encouraged to sell directly. Since the norovirus in December, sales have had difficulty restarting because wholesalers are turning to other regions like .”

Oyster farmers Marion and Simon Quenet Lejeune hope to win their case to continue to make a living their local service.
