The 2023 data on housing starts in Granby, recently released, however, reveals that the value of the work – at 150.7 million – is 20% lower than that observed in 2022 – 187.6 million.
The number of permits granted – 151 – is also down significantly by 30%, compared to the 213 permits in 2022, concerning housing starts specifically.
A look back at some key projects
The delivery of the first two floors, out of six, of the building of 110 luxury rental units from Immeubles Migi, which we see in the main photo in this article, will take place in December 2024, according to entrepreneur and developer Patrick Giard . The remaining units will be delivered in early 2025.
This building is the last phase of a project comprising three buildings, the first two of 50 and 74 housing units, located near the one still under construction, being already occupied. It includes a training center, a swimming pool and a golf simulator.
Note also the project of 90 affordable housing units located at 120-140 rue Simonds Sud, supported by the Haute-Yamaska-Rouville Housing Office (OHHYR).
“Construction is progressing well, everything is going as planned and we should be able to welcome tenants at the end of October, mid-November,” explains Guy Mongeau, general director of OHHYR.
The City also mentions another project carried out by the housing office. This concerns the reconstruction of the building comprising 27 apartments, at 103-105, rue de l’Assomption, after the fire which ravaged this address. Here again, the tenants’ entry date should be identical to that on rue Simonds Sud.
“In the next two years, more than 300 affordable housing units will be built in Granby,” underlines the mayor.
Trend for 2024
The sector of routes 112 and 139, west of the new overpass, currently in turmoil in terms of real estate, will probably help to inflate the figures for 2024. “We are working with the developers, and the projects are moving forward,” summarizes Ms. Bumblebee.
“I see with a good eye [ce qui s’en vient pour 2024]“, she predicts.
Whether they are private or affordable projects supported by different levels of government, the mayor of Granby remains focused on her main objective in housing.
“We work with [les différents partenaires] to make sure everyone has a roof over their heads.”
