“The 3rd half but not just any old way”: sports clubs in Deux-Sèvres commit to alcohol consumption

Sports structures in Deux-Sèvres are committed to reasoned alcohol consumptionwith the “Pure sport” label. Eleven sports clubs and committees are currently part of the system which is aimed at both spectators and practitioners. “In many sports, we cannot imagine practicing sport without drinking a glass of alcohol”, notes Patrick Machet is the president of CDOS 79, the Deux-Sèvres Olympic committee. With this label, he particularly wants to promote “prevention with children. Team sport or not, when we return to the locker room, the children must quench their thirst and the educator will not go and get his bottle of beer, that will be the beginning”.

Money income

Sports stakeholders are well aware that the recipe for refreshment bars is a very significant income for small clubs. “But not at any price”estimates Dany Fournier, president of the Deux-Sèvres departmental rugby committee. “If a person has been drinking, someone needs to take them home, to avoid ending up in the hospital or in a wheelchair. So yes, 3rd half but not just any way and not just any way What”, continues the president of the rugby committee, who reminds club presidents of their responsibility in the event of an accident. For Patrick Machet of CDOS 79, the fight against excessive alcohol consumption also involves “sell alcoholic drinks more expensive than non-alcoholic drinks. Often it’s the opposite”.

*The first 11 signatory structures are: the Deux-Sèvres departmental rugby committee, the Parthenaisian athletic sport, the Athletic rugby club Chauray, the Niort Saint-Florent athletic union, the Niortais Taekwondo club, the Equinoxe equestrian relay, the SAM basketball Moncoutant, the Keep cool, the Dojo Gâtine Parthenay, the Saint-Pardoux/Soutiers sports academy, the international sports and leisure organization.
