A family fair returns to Quebec

The pandemic, confinements and usual precautions in the presence of pregnant women and children had forced the show to keep its ticket offices closed for four years. The event returns from April 18 to 20 in Quebec, this time at the Intact Assurance Ice Center, for a seventh presentation (and after a 28th in Montreal, earlier this month).

This return is all the more important, in the opinion of its new promoter, as the resources in this area are not as abundant as necessary. “Before the pandemic, several magazines were published in Quebec on the subjects of childhood and motherhood. Today, it almost no longer exists. There may only be a small handful left. Same thing for books and columns on this subject on TV,” laments Simon Ayotte.

The latter is part of the quartet who took over the reins of the event after the retirement of its founder Louise Benoit, after three decades at its head. This year, singer Suzie Villeneuve will be present as spokesperson, herself being the mother of little Edward who will soon be two years old.

A new online presence

As a result, the idea was born to modernize the concept of the show – nicknamed SMPE+ – by also offering advice and references online. On the website, we offer virtual kiosks, informative video clips, contests, promotions, etc. It is also an opportunity for merchants to present their products all year round.

“What our visitors are looking for is an immediate response. The younger generation is used to searching and getting an answer at their fingertips on social networks, on Facebook. But there are no specialists in these groups.”

— Simon Ayotte, co-organizer of the Maternity Paternity Children Fair

“What we seek to do at the Salon is to find and offer practical advice on a daily basis to quickly respond to the needs of parents and children,” he continues.

On site in Quebec City starting Thursday, future mothers, new parents, grandparents and educators will be able to discover the products and new products of the hundred or so invited exhibitors. Activities for toddlers will also be offered: games, face painting, shows, mascots, etc.
