The Paris Metro line will close to the public after 10 p.m. on weekdays due to modernization works.

The Paralympic Games have barely finished and work is resuming on the Paris metro. The railway works that were suspended during the Games are resuming in the evenings, on weekends and during school holidays.

Starting this Monday, September 9, line 14 will stop at 10 p.m., from Monday to Thursday until December 19. The metro will not be accessible all day on September 15 and 29, as well as October 13 and November 17 and 24.

“Further interruptions are expected from January 2025,” RATP has already announced on its website.

To compensate for these closures, a replacement bus will run between Gare de Lyon and Olympiades stations.

Modernization that requires interruptions

This work is linked to the modernisation of the line, which has now been extended to Orly airport since the end of June. “The complete modernisation of line 14 and its control system still requires work and testing. These will enable additional features of the new system to be tested in real conditions to make it even more efficient,” specifies the RATP.

“For technical and safety reasons, these tests must be carried out outside of passenger traffic, and therefore require interruptions,” explains the autonomous Parisian transport authority.

The line now connects Saint-Denis to Orly airport but the Villejuif – Gustave Roussy station is still closed. It should open in December.

Other evening line closures are planned in the coming weeks, particularly on the 4 and 12 lines.
