The architectural testimony of the oblique function

Jean Nouvel was 25 years old when he began designing this house, one of the rare applications of the oblique function on a housing scale in France. In collaboration with architects Roland Baltera and François Seigneur, who worked in Claude Parent’s agency at the time, he imagined a structure where inclined planes and diagonal lines reign. The bathroom of the house is the perfect example, the built-in bathtub being inclined. Located to the north of the building, the entrance leads to a living space of 170 square meters initially intended for a couple before being redeveloped for family life. Four people can now live under the roof of the Maison Oblique, since an extension was created in the extension of the old garage. In addition to the sleeping area, which includes a master suite with shower room and a second bedroom with bathroom, Jean Nouvel’s house has a plot of 2,100 square meters to be developed according to one’s desires.

An ideal home for family life

Accessible via large bay windows, the terrace boasts an outdoor swimming pool perfectly integrated into this concrete environment, a gem of contemporary architecture. Over the last fifty years, the house has had three owners, each of whom has made their share of renovations, playing with the spaces. Today, Maison Oblique combines heritage power and comfort dedicated to family life. Flat areas of light tones on the floor and immaculate walls soften the rigor of the concrete; natural light reigns supreme between the walls of the house.

In Lot-et-Garonne, the Maison Oblique by Jean Nouvel is being put up for sale by the Architecture de Collection agency for the sum of €690,000.
