For almost thirty years, no exposition has not gathered so many paintings by masters of the artistic movement known as the School of Rouen than that organized under the expertise of François Lespinasse and the will of Xavier Jean, first deputy mayor of Mesnil-Esnard, and informed amateur.

The École de Rouen exhibition continues until September 8, 2024: a few more days to enjoy this exceptional event.

Paintings from private collections

Seventy works were thus entrusted by private collectors, including the Port of Rouen seen by Léon-Jules Lemaître (1850-1905), the Logis Caradac by Hyppolyte Madeleine (1871-1966), the Cathedral by Pierre Dumont (1884-1936), The Harvest by Charles Frechon (1856-1929) and The Sailor by Pierre Hodé (1889-1942).

A dive into a school that reveals its different trends all along the Seine and which above all brings up to date an art that made Rouen’s reputation in the 19th century.

“A golden thread of our collective memory”

From the opening, Saturday August 31, there were many visitors. They came “to discover this golden thread of our collective memory. These rare pearls affiliated with the Rouen Impressionism festival which celebrates the 150th anniversary of the movement. Here, it is the truth that springs from the paintings”, declared Mayor Jean-Marc Vennin, surrounded by MP Annie Vidal, regional councilor Laurent Bonnaterre, departmental councilor Julien Demazure, first deputy Xavier Jean and expert François Lespinasse, during the opening.
