A woman hangs flowers at the front door of Serge Gainsbourg’s house in central Paris on July 20 to pay tribute to his former wife Jane Birkin.
DEATH – Rue Saint-Honoré, in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. It is there that will be held, Monday, July 24, the funeral of Jane Birkin, who died on Sunday, in the Saint-Roch church. A giant screen will be installed to allow the crowd to attend, announced Thursday July 20 the entourage of the artist to AFP.
The ceremony must be held from 10 a.m., and access to the church will be “reserved for family and friends”said this source to AFP. “However, to involve the general public, the ceremony will be broadcast live on a giant screen at the corner of rue Saint-Honoré and rue des Pyramides”she added.
“Fierce battle against disease”
Jane Birkin, 76, was found lifeless late Sunday morning at her Parisian home by her life assistant. Many tributes have been paid to the actress and singer. Her daughters, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon, hailed the “Fierce battle against the disease” led by their mother.
“Jane Birkin passed away after 16 years of a fierce battle with the disease. Since her stroke in September 2021, her family and wonderful caregivers have been by her side day and night.” they wrote in a press release.
“For a few days, she had been walking again, was motivated to reschedule her Olympia and had decided to regain her independence. This first evening alone will have been the last. She had decided it, they add in this text transmitted by Olivier Gluzman, manager of the artist.
