The legendary London label Warp Records welcomes Slauson Malone 1 to its five-star roster. The American musician and performer had been noticed for his first two releases, “A Quiet Farwell, 2016-2018 (Crater Speak)” in 2019 and “Vergangenheitsbewältigung (Crater Speak)” in 2020.
Slauson Malone 1 is the name of artist Jasper Marsalis’ music and performance project. Based in Los Angeles, the American explores the possible intersections between popular music and artistic performance. On his latest album Vergangenheitsbewältigung (Crater Speak) of 2020, this translates into a multifaceted hip-hop proposal with jazz, experimental, classical and drone influences.
An intriguing signature full of promise
The signature of Slauson Malone 1 therefore opens the next expected chapter of his singular artistic approach. It makes all the more sense to see him land at Warp, a historic label recognized for its taste for radical and avant-garde artistic visions, such as those of Aphex Twin, Kelela or Yves Tumor.
Of this new signing, Warp said in a statement: “We’re thrilled to be working with Slauson Malone 1 at Warp – we strongly support and believe in Jasper’s vision, and can’t wait to see what happens next.Slauson Malone 1 has also announced a US headlining tour, which will begin on October 12 in Montreal and conclude at the Bowery Ballroom in New York on October 22, 2023. A few weeks before that, he will open King Krule’s California concerts in September as part of the Space Heavy Tower.
