‘Fascinating’ Movement: ‘Swifties for Kamala’ Raises Tens of Thousands of Dollars

Fans of singer Taylor Swift launched the “Swifties for Kamala” movement to support Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, raising nearly $140,000 USD ($188,000 CAD).

While Taylor Swift has yet to publicly endorse candidate Kamala Harris, the Swifties have organized a virtual rally in support of Harris. In fact, more than 26,000 people participated in the Zoom call on Tuesday, according to CNN, including Carole King and Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Kirsten Gillibrand.

The movement is “absolutely fascinating,” says Brouillard Communication’s general director, Ann-Florence Brouillard, in an interview with LCN.

“It’s absolutely crazy that this has happened in such a short period of time and that they’ve raised almost $140,000 USD,” she continues.

With this initiative, the “Swifties” share the common interest of politics by supporting candidate Kamala Harris, which is very “interesting”, according to the director.

Fans are not doing this for Taylor Swift, but more to come together and support Kamala Harris independently.

“This love for a music icon is the perfect example of how fans can come together around projects much bigger than the love of music,” says Mme Fog.

Although singer Taylor Swift is not involved in this event, many imagine that she will support Kamala Harris. “She was voted the person of the year. She has a lot of weight, which means that she will not make her announcement lightly,” emphasizes Ann-Florence Brouillard.

She also claims that Taylor Swift “formally opposed” Donald Trump in the past and claims to be a “feminist.” That said, it would be “logical” for her to support the Democratic candidate.

According to the director of Brouillard communication, Taylor Swift’s decision on her choice of candidate will be very “thoughtful” and will be made “completely outside of what the Swifties do.”

“It’s great to see that people who don’t know each other and who share a common passion manage to take an interest in politics,” concludes Ann-Florence Brouillard.
