Reunion Island, New Orleans and Haiti are featured in this magnificent live session! (Rebroadcast)
Our first guests are the group Grèn Sémé for the release of the EP Maloya Gazé + remixes
A major musical genre from Reunion Island, Maloya, becomes “gassed” (crazy) through the sounds composed by Grèn Sémé for this new EP.
A gassed maloya which combines direct inspiration from the purest line of this traditional Reunion music and its very current evolution, signature of the Grèn Semé group.
Composed on the sidelines of the studio sessions for the latest album, “Zamroza”, the first three tracks of this brand new EP reveal this solar side of the Creole group.
We taste the love of the text and the thirst for discovery. And we savor the accuracy of the mixture of their compositions. Between inspiration from the tradition of the greatest song/percussion pieces in the history of the island and the group’s unique and identifiable arrangements, Grèn Sémé offers three anthems which lend themselves wonderfully to the exercise of remixing.
Luxury bonus: the 3 Remixes of Voilaaa + La Dame + Guiss Guiss Bou bess. Voilaaa and the fabulous Bruno Patchworks took “Siko” to create a Cape Verdean ballroom hit, funana with its heady melodies, it’s ultra-danceable! La Dame, producer and DJ from Belgium, remixes the eponymous title into an effective batida for the dance floor, DJs and dancers. The Guiss Guiss Bou Bess push the remix exercise a little further by adding the Senegalese sabars and the singing of Mara Seck, leader of the group, responds to Carlo de Sacco on the title “Alkol”, it’s beautiful and provokes a real explosion of joy and emotions.

Then the #SessionLive welcomes Leyla McCalla for the release of the album Sun Without The Heat.
Born in New York to a couple of Haitian emigrants and activists, Leyla McCalla developed an early fascination with Haiti and its culture, thanks in part to time spent at her grandmother’s house as a child. . After moving to Ghana for two years and later graduating, she eventually drifted south to New Orleans, where she wanted to make a living playing cello on the streets of the French Quarter.
Her dedication to illuminating the black roots of American culture ultimately led her to the Carolina Chocolate Drops. After two years of touring and recording with the Grammy Award-winning group, she left to pursue her own career as a solo artist.
L’album Sun Whithout The Heat is his 5th studio recording.
